Collaboration remains essential as the region continues to navigate the opportunities and complexities of the energy transition. On 22 May 2026, our Partner, Alfa Dewi Setiawati, joined fellow Mori Hamada offices for “Regional Energy Transition: Opportunities, Risks and Geopolitics” workshop, that was held in Bangkok, Thailand.
Alfa brought her insights for Indonesia, along with Mihoko Shima and Kristian Bradshaw for Japan, Nirmalan Amirthanesan for Myanmar and Vietnam, Allan Christopher Chu for the Philippines, Julian Barendse for Singapore, as well as Tip-apa Limvichai and Sarunporn Chaianant for Thailand. The workshop explored the evolving regulatory landscape, geopolitical dynamics, financing considerations, and investment opportunities shaping the region’s energy transition journey, with Sooksun Popunngarm and Disaphon Kevin Saengpetch as moderators.
The workshop highlighted how the region’s energy transition is being shaped by geopolitical risks, energy security concerns, and rising AI-driven power demand. Discussions focused on the balance between decarbonisation ambitions and stability-driven policies, particularly in areas such as LNG, carbon markets, direct PPAs, and grid infrastructure. The session also explored investment opportunities and regulatory challenges, emphasizing the need for stronger legal frameworks and greater market certainty to accelerate clean energy investment across the region.
